WILLIMANTIC — A year after being suspended, bus transit fees will be reinstated on April 1, including fees for the Windham Region Transit District.

Fees were suspended as of April 1, 2022 under legislation approved by Gov. Ned Lamont.

Starting April 1, all bus fares except for the

HuskyGo Shuttle Service bus fare will resume.

Windham Region Transit District Linda Hapeman said in an e-mail that during the suspension period, the program has been funded using COVID recovery funds from the state.

However, under federal regulations, the program could only be suspended for one year.

Fees range widely, from $0.75 for a disabled person to ride alone on the local routes to $40 for a full fare monthly pass or Token Transit monthly pass for local routes.

Children four and under are free for all routes.

University of Connecticut students can request a U-Pass CT at no cost on a semester by semester basis.

That includes unlimited use of CT Transit, CT Transit Express, CT Fasttrak train service and many regional transportation services, including WRTD. Students will be required to have their U-Pass CT on them when getting on a bus.

Passes can be purchased in-person at 28 South Frontage Road in Mansfield Center; via the Token Transit app in Google Play or the Apple app store.
